The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) is perhaps Jesus’ most well known teaching. Here he reveals a way of being in the world that is human flourishing because it brings the life of God’s future kingdom into the present – for our good and for the good of the world around us. This future has already begun to arrive in the person and work of Jesus. Through union with him, we are invited to practice the habits of life which find their ultimate goal in that coming full future, even if this way of life seems “upside-down” in our current world. In practicing this way of life, we are increasingly becoming the type of people in whom and through whom the kingdom of God comes. This is a flourishing life.
